Prayer and the Power of Intention

I'm reading The Intention Experiment by Lynne McTaggert. It's a books that's fascinating but not your every day beach reading, so I work on it awhile, walk away, come back... It's intriguing because it covers the topic of the power of intention, and that's very familiar territory for me since I learned about prayer before I could walk. The more scientific experiments I read which produce incredible outcomes, the more I think, well, I knew that. We learned about that in Sunday School, only we called it something different. Let me write a passage from page 143-144, and see if things sound familiar to any of you who spent time in Sunday School.

Braud's other studies also suggested that we can most influence others to become more "ordered" when we ourselves are ordered. For instance, in his studies, calm people were the most successful at sending mental influence to calm down highly nervous people, and focused people the best at helping distracted people focus. Braud's work also suggests that the greatest effects occur when the person most needs help.

Scientific evidence also reveals that we can affect virtually any other living thing as well. The enormous body of research on healing gathered by Dr. Daniel Benor shows that thoughts can have powerful effects on a variety of plants, seeds, single-celled organisms such as bacteria and yeast, and insects and other small animals... All these possibilities suggest that we have an awesome level of responsibility when generating our thoughts. Each of us is a potential Frankenstein, with an extraordinary power to affect the living world around us. How many of us, after all, are sending out mostly positive thoughts?

After reading that, I closed the book, put it on the table, and these words popped in my head from the old King James I memorized as a child," The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." In a more modern version of James 5:16 it reads, "The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective."  I love that verse, and now science has proven it to be true. I didn't have to read the experiments to know that. I already know it, but it's like icing on a cake to see it proven to skeptics.

                                   Peace.
                                                                        Love, Linda

One day, I will open up the blog, and it will say 1 comment. I will cheer and shout and say hooray even though I know it will be tomorrow, and it will be my comment. However, I believe that's how it will start.
Thanks comment writers. I would love to see your thinking on the page. OK, no pressure.

It's nice to have that kind of beginning in life isn't it? Prayer has always been my daily partner. God has really become accustom to my sentence prayers. The mind of a person is a powerful thing. Just imagine what can happen with that power with God is the source. I hope you get this comment. I've wanted to comment before but I couldn't figure how.

No pressure, huh? Ok, this is number 2 comment in addition to yours. I think I hear you shouting!!!
I can't say that I manage to do it every single day, but I start most of my days anticipating something good happening. I'm grateful for this perspective. I'm also grateful for your blog. It always provides an additonal lift to my spirits.

The Mirror of God

I sat on the back porch early in the AM holding my warm coffee cup tightly in my hands listening to birds sing and a gator behind the fence ...
